Herndon Dryhurst Studio
Herndon Dryhurst Studio is a Berlin-based studio founded by artists Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst, working at the intersection of music, artificial intelligence, and digital systems. Their practice explores how technologies shape creativity, collective knowledge, and forms of collaboration, approaching artificial intelligence not as a separate alien intelligence, but as a reflection of human creativity.
One of their distinctive methodologies involves training AI models on photographs, voices, and other materials they create themselves, questioning issues of authorship, data ownership, and control over the creative process. Through projects such as Holly+ (2021), xhairymutantx (2024), and The Call (2024), they develop new models of creation that explore the future of art in the age of generative AI. As they emphasize themselves, the future of artificial intelligence does not necessarily belong to slop—generic, automated, and uncritical content production—but can instead evolve into a space for thoughtful, collective, and human forms of creation.
