Anyone who has read Perfection, a novel by Vincenzo Latronico, knows it’s no surprise that this book captured the niche memes of last summer on the internet, transcended the boundaries of literature, and became a symbol of a certain lifestyle. This novel, a finalist for this year’s International Booker Prize, explores the question of the difference between life and lifestyle, portrayed through its protagonists, whose real lives sadly lag behind their online presence most of the time. Ana and Tom, the main characters, are not only designers by profession but also designers of their own lives. However, the novel is not a moralistic critique of an era or even a generation − it’s an empathetic portrayal of a generation that believed it would become something other than what it actually is.
Manca G. Renko will be speaking with Vincenzo Latronico about writing, design, and generational identity − especially where life, literature, and the internet intersect. Perfection was published by No!Press.
