MLADEN DOLAR & PETER SZENDY
Mladen Dolar is a prominent Slovenian philosopher, an engaged and critical intellectual, and a thinker of our time. He is a professor at the Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, and also lectures at various universities across Europe and the United States. His academic research focuses on German classical philosophy, contemporary French thought, psychoanalysis, and the theory of art. In the 1980s, together with Slavoj Žižek and Rastko Močnik, he founded the Society for Theoretical Psychoanalysis, which uniquely integrates Lacanian psychoanalysis, Hegelian philosophy, and social criticism.
Peter Szendy is David Herlihy Professor of Humanities and Comparative Literature at Brown University and musicological advisor for the concert programs at the Paris Philharmonie. His books include Of Stigmatology: Punctuation as Experience; All Ears: The Aesthetics of Espionage; Apocalypse-Cinema: 2012 and Other Ends of the World; Kant in the Land of Extraterrestrials; Hits: Philosophy in the Jukebox; and Listen: A History of Our Ears.. In his latest book The Supermarket of the Visible he elaborates an economy proper to images, icons, in other words, an “iconomy”. The Supermarket of the Visible is a must read for anyone concerned with media, philosophy, politics, or visual culture.
