CATHERINE MALABOU & MLADEN DOLAR

A conversation between the two renowned philosophers, united by integrating philosophy and psychoanalysis with other disciplines.

Mladen Dolar is a prominent Slovenian philosopher, an engaged and critical intellectual, and a thinker of time. He is a professor at the Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Arts, Ljubljana, and a guest lecturer at universities across the United States and Europe. His academic research focuses on German classical philosophy, modern French thought, psychoanalysis, and the theory of art. In the 1980s, he, Slavoj Žižek, and Rastko Močnik founded the Society for Theoretical Psychoanalysis, which uniquely integrates Lacanian psychoanalysis, Hegelian philosophy, and social criticism.

Catherine Malabou is a professor of philosophy at The European Graduate School and a professor of modern European philosophy at the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy at Kingston University, London. She is renowned for her work on plasticity, which she derived from Hegel's "Phenomenology of Spirit." This concept has exerted a significant influence on contemporary economic, political, and social discourses. Considered one of the most intriguing figures in "The New French Philosophy," Malabou's research and writing encompass various thinkers and topics. She engages with the works of Hegel, Freud, Heidegger, and Derrida, examining the interplay between philosophy, neuroscience, and psychoanalysis.

The event celebrates the Night of Ideas (La nuit des idées) and is organised in collaboration with the French Institute in Slovenia and the Maska Institute and supported by AirFrance.
